Mrs Laird shows us a good mental maths game this week called ‘Butterfly’.

Children pick a card that will be their ‘target’ number and then pick another three cards (called the caterpillar).  They try to use the values of those three cards to make the target number using multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.  If you cannot use the numbers to make the target number then you must put out another number and another number until you get it – watch out though, this will make you caterpillar longer!  See who can get the shortest ‘caterpillars’ to make their ‘butterfly’ and use up all their cards!
